Build Credit and Earn Cashback on Rent Payments
Chexy lets you pay rent with a credit card, report to Equifax, and earn rewards on your largest monthly expense.

Rent is typically the largest single line item in a household budget — and one of the few expenses that doesn't build credit or earn rewards. Chexy changes that. It processes your rent payment, pays your landlord by e-transfer or bank transfer, and charges your credit card. As a side effect, it also reports your payment history to Equifax.

How It Works
- Connect your landlord's payment details (bank account or e-transfer email)
- Link your credit card to Chexy
- Chexy charges your card each month and forwards the rent to your landlord
- Payment history is reported to Equifax on a monthly basis
Your landlord never needs to interact with Chexy — they just receive their usual payment. From their perspective, nothing changes.
Key Benefits
Build credit on rent. Credit bureaus don't see rental payments by default because landlords typically don't report them. Chexy fills this gap by reporting on-time rent payments to Equifax — particularly valuable for newcomers to Canada, people rebuilding credit, or anyone with a thin credit file.
Earn credit card rewards. If you're on a travel rewards or cash back card, running rent through Chexy turns your largest monthly expense into a rewards vehicle. On a $2,000/month rent with a 2% cash back card, that's $480/year in rewards that would otherwise go uncaptured.
Simplified rent payments. Chexy handles the monthly transfer on your behalf. No forgotten e-transfers, no manual bank payments.
Cost
Chexy charges a processing fee per transaction — check their current pricing at signup, as it has changed over time. The fee is typically a percentage of the rent amount. The math on whether Chexy pays for itself depends on your card's rewards rate: if your card earns more per dollar than the processing fee percentage, you come out ahead on rewards alone before counting the credit-building benefit.
Reporting to Equifax
Chexy reports rent as an installment-type tradeline to Equifax. This shows up on your credit file and contributes to your payment history — the largest factor in most credit scores. The reporting begins after your first processed payment and updates monthly.
Note: Equifax reporting only, not TransUnion. If you're actively managing both bureaus, this covers one of the two.
Referral Program
Both parties get a bonus when you sign up via a referral link. The specific amounts vary; check the current offer at signup.
